About Us
Before you fly with Air Wakatipu you probably would like to know something about us and our credentials so here's some background information.
Air Wakatipu is, of course, approved by New Zealand's Civil Aviation Authority, and our aircraft and pilots must meet CAA standards at all times. We have always made passenger safety and comfort our number one priority. We are the commercial arm of the Wakatipu Aero club, hence, our pilots, who specialise in mountain flying, have been trained through the Aero club and have to meet exacting standards before being allowed to fly commercially with Air Wakatipu. Each year they undergo rigorous route and competency checks. We are proud of an unblemished safety record flying passengers to Milford Sound and around the Southern Alps going back over 20 years.
In order to compete with larger operations and stand out from the crowd we have concentrated on providing personalised levels of service. Our team of highly trained and dedicated pilots and ground staff are prepared to go the extra distance to ensure our customers expectations are met and, hopefully, exceeded. We like to think we can make each of our passengers feel as if they are our most important customer.
We operate 4 and 6 seat aircraft, you can see some of our fleet in the image gallery. All seats in our aircraft are window seats and in addition to flying you safely and comfortably our pilots enjoy providing the most informative and interesting commentary possible. So, in addition to a flightseeing experience of a lifetime, you also learn about the locality, about the flora and fauna, the geography and geology of the region, its history and perhaps even share a joke or two!
We have occupied the same site on the Western side of Queenstown airport since 1970. Our office is open 7 days a week and our friendly office staff have extensive local knowledge and are able to provide valuable assistance in itinerary and tour planning around Queenstown and the Southern Alps.
