Doubtful Sound / Milford Sound Overflight

Doubtful Sound is the deepest and second largest of all the sounds in Fiordland, it is a powerful place, serene, mysterious and untouched. This flight takes you from Queenstown, south west past lake Te Anau and over the lake of many islands - Lake Manapouri before crossing the Wilmot pass and descending into deep cove and Doubtful Sound. Of course, all seats are window seats from which you can sit back in comfort and safety as snow covered mountains loom above a dramatic, ever changing panorama of waterfalls, beech forest, rivers, hanging valleys and mountain lakes.

We are the commercial arm of the Wakatipu Aero club, consequently you can relax in the reassuring knowledge that all our pilots have undergone rigorous training with the Aero club throughout the local mountains and being familiar with the area can provide an interesting and informative commentary as you fly through the Sound and out towards the Tasman Sea. 

Leaving the Sound the flight then tracks North along the Fiordland coastline to Milford Sound. With the Tasman sea to one side,  rain forested slopes to the other and surf crashing against rocky pinnacles and caves directly below you your flight passes Thompson, Nancy, Charles, Caswell, George, Bligh and Sutherland sounds before turning into Milford Sound. The final part of the flight takes you back to Queentown via the Sutherland falls.
